Hidradenitis Suppurativa

Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) is a disease of the apocrine sweat glands. It is typically seen as cysts or inflammatory bumps in the armpits, under the breasts, or in the genital region. These cysts can rupture and are very painful. Hidradenitis suppurativa is part of the follicular occlusion tetrad, so these patients are also prone to acne, pilonidal cysts, and dissecting cellulitis of the scalp.

HS can be due to occlusion of the hair follicle or immune system dysregulation. The sweat glands in this region are not working properly. There are many things we can do for HS. Topical medications like clindamycin and erythromycin can be applied to these areas to reduce inflammation. Oral antibiotics seen in acne treatment such as doxycycline, spironolactione, and minocycline can also be used to help stop HS. For severe cases, a biologic injection Humira has now been approved for us in the treatment of HS.

Do not suffer alone with hidradenitis suppurativa. Please come and see us at Moksha Derm in Cincinnnati to treat your HS. We want to help you look and feel your best.
